Trusting God Through Hard Times: When Provision Didn’t Make Sense

One of the hardest parts of my journey wasn’t just the diagnosis—it was figuring out how to afford the life-saving treatment I needed. In Part 4 of my story, I share how God provided through people, provision, and unexpected blessings when everything felt impossible.

Part 4 – Trusting God to Make a Way

Introduction

There are moments in life when trusting God through hard times becomes more than just a saying—it becomes the only thing holding you together. For me, one of the hardest parts of this journey wasn’t only the diagnosis itself, but figuring out how I was going to afford the life-saving treatment I needed. Healing suddenly became more than physical; it became financial, emotional, and deeply spiritual.

The Reality of No Insurance

After my emergency tracheotomy, I knew I needed surgery to open my airway.

It wasn’t optional.

It was life-saving.

But there was one major problem:

I didn’t have insurance.

And before I could even move forward, I was told I needed to pay 20% upfront for the surgery.

Even though this was a life-and-death situation…

It was treated like a non-necessity.

Facing the Impossible

I remember thinking:

How am I supposed to do this?

How do you come up with that kind of money… in a moment like this?

It felt impossible.

And yet… I knew I didn’t have another option.

Taking a Step of Faith

So I did something that required humility.

Something that wasn’t easy for me.

I started a GoFundMe.

Asking for help is not something that comes naturally to me.

But in that moment, I had to trust that God would provide—through whatever means He chose.

God’s Provision Often Comes Through People

And He did.

Through the generosity of others, the support I didn’t expect, and people showing up in ways I couldn’t have planned…

God made a way.

It wasn’t how I imagined it would happen.

But it happened.

Scripture Reflection

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19

God didn’t just see my need.

He provided for it.

The Right Doctor, The Right Time

In June 2024, I was able to move forward with my surgery at University of Virginia Medical Center.

That’s where I met Dr. DeNero.

And from the very beginning, I knew he was different.

He listened, cared, and never rushed me or pushed me into anything.

His bedside manner was something I had never experienced before and I knew—without a doubt—that God placed him in my life.

Healing Through Provision

The surgery I had—a balloon dilation with laser and steroid injection—was a turning point.

Even though I still had my trach at that time…

It was the beginning of healing.

The beginning of breathing again.

Seeing God in Every Detail

Looking back, I can see how God worked through every step:

  • The people who gave
  • The opportunity to have surgery
  • The doctor who treated me
  • The plan that was put into place

None of it was случайно.

It was provision.

When God Makes a Way

Sometimes we expect God to remove the obstacle.

But sometimes… He makes a way through it.

Not instantly.
Not easily.
But faithfully.

Scripture Reflection

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

Even in the moments that felt overwhelming…

God was present.

And He was working.

Devotional Thought

If you are facing something that feels impossible right now…

A financial burden, a health challenge, or something you don’t know how to overcome…

Remember this:

God is not limited by what you can see.

He can provide in ways you never expected.

Prayer

Lord,
Thank You for being my provider in ways I could never have planned.
Help me trust You, even when the path forward feels impossible.
Remind me that You are always working, even when I don’t see it yet.
Amen.
