Coffee, Quiet Mornings, and God

Coffee, Quiet Mornings, and God

In a world filled with noise, I’ve learned to treasure slow mornings with coffee, quiet moments, and time with God. These simple routines help me feel grounded, peaceful, and ready to face whatever the day brings.

Introduction

Some of my favorite moments in life are the quiet ones.

Before the notifications, all of the responsibilities for the day, and before the noise of the world fully wakes up.

There’s something deeply comforting about sitting quietly with a cup of coffee while the house is still peaceful and the morning light slowly begins filling the room.

Over the years, I’ve realized those slow mornings have become about much more than coffee.

They’ve become moments where I reconnect with God, breathe deeply, and prepare my heart before stepping into the weight of the day.

Mornings Feel Different Now

The older I get, the more I value peace.

I no longer crave rushed or chaotic mornings where I immediately reach for my phone and fill my mind with emails, notifications, stress, and responsibilities before I’ve even fully opened my eyes. Instead, I’ve learned to appreciate slower mornings that allow me to begin the day with peace, quiet, and a few moments to simply breathe before the demands of life begin.

I used to think productivity mattered most in the morning.

Now I think peace matters more.

Because the way I begin my mornings often affects:

  • my emotions
  • my stress levels
  • my mindset
  • my patience
  • even how connected I feel to God throughout the day

Coffee Became Part of the Comfort

If you know me, you already know I love coffee.

There’s something comforting about:

  • the warmth of the mug
  • the smell of fresh coffee
  • the quietness of early mornings
  • the feeling of slowing down before life speeds up

Honestly, coffee has become part of my “pause.”

Not just caffeine.

Comfort.

A reminder to sit still for a few moments before carrying the responsibilities waiting later in the day.

Quiet Mornings Feel Sacred to Me

Some mornings I sit with my Bible open beside my coffee.

Other mornings I journal, pray quietly, or simply sit in silence while worship music softly plays in the background.

And honestly, some mornings I don’t even have the right words to pray.

I simply sit with God.

Those moments may seem small, but they’ve become deeply grounding for me.

God Often Meets Me in the Quiet

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is this:

God often feels closest in stillness.

Not because He disappears during busy seasons, but because constant noise makes it harder for us to notice Him.

Life today feels incredibly loud:

  • social media
  • stress
  • responsibilities
  • comparison
  • endless information
  • constant stimulation

And I think many people are emotionally exhausted because their minds never fully rest anymore.

Quiet mornings create space for my soul to breathe again.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

That verse speaks to me differently now than it once did.

Some of My Deepest Healing Happened in Quiet Moments

Over the last few years, life has stretched me emotionally, physically, and spiritually in ways I never expected.

Walking through:

  • idiopathic subglottic stenosis
  • surgeries and recovery
  • perimenopause
  • grief after losing my mom
  • anxiety and uncertainty

…changed me deeply.

There were seasons where I felt emotionally exhausted and overwhelmed in ways I couldn’t fully explain.

And honestly, some of the moments that helped steady me the most were the quiet mornings where I simply sat with God before the world demanded anything from me.

Peace Looks Different Now

I used to think peace meant life becoming easier.

Now I realize peace is something deeper than circumstances.

Peace is knowing God is still present:

  • during uncertainty
  • during grief
  • during health struggles
  • during waiting seasons
  • during emotionally heavy days

Sometimes my morning coffee and quiet time are less about routine and more about remembering I don’t have to carry everything alone.

I Think Our Souls Crave Stillness

The world constantly teaches us to:

  • hurry
  • hustle
  • produce more
  • stay busy
  • stay distracted

But I honestly think our souls were created for slower rhythms than most people live with now.

There’s healing in:

  • slowing down
  • breathing deeply
  • sitting quietly
  • watching the sunrise
  • praying without rushing
  • letting your nervous system rest

Those moments matter more than we realize.

Coffee Isn’t Really the Point

As much as I love coffee, it’s not really about the coffee itself.

It’s about what the quiet mornings represent:

  • peace
  • stillness
  • comfort
  • reflection
  • presence
  • connection with God

Those slow moments help remind me who I am before the stress of the world tries to define the day for me.

Scripture Reflection

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” — Lamentations 3:22-23

I love that Scripture reminds us every morning is a fresh beginning.

New mercy, grace, and strength.

Devotional Thought

Maybe your soul isn’t craving more pressure, busyness, or another perfectly planned morning routine. Perhaps what you truly need is peace—a quiet moment with God before carrying the responsibilities, decisions, and demands that the day will inevitably bring. Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is slow down long enough to let our hearts rest in His presence first.

Prayer

Lord,

Thank You for the quiet moments where I can slow down and simply be with You.

Help me create space for peace in my mornings and remind me that I do not have to carry every burden alone. Teach me to value stillness, rest, and Your presence more than constant busyness.

Amen.
